AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Junior wins four straight at Selah tournament

Three out of the four wins by shutout

SELAH — The Wilder Junior Baseball Club has enjoyed a wildly successful tournament in Selah this weekend with four straight wins, capped off by two straight shutouts on Saturday, 12-0 over the RCA Underclass and 4-0 over Whatcom AA.

In the 12-0 afternoon win, Zach DeBray pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing two hits and striking out three.

At the plate, Easton Fisher was 2-for-2 with double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Duran Ward was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Ian Smithson had a double and stole three bases and scored two runs. Owen Leitz and Logan Doyle each had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs.

With the four wins, the juniors improved their overall record to 9-4. Three out of the four victories in Selah were shutouts and the juniors’ pitchers allowed just 13 hits total in the four wins. Wilder Junior also beat the Yakima Valley Peppers 7-6 on Friday and crushed Sedro-Woolley AA 19-0 on Thursday.

In the 4-0 victory over Whatcom AA, it was Carston Seibel pitching the complete-game shutout, going seven innings and allowing four hits while striking out sic.

At the plate in Saturday’s shutout, Seibel helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 with a double. Hunter Tennell had a double and an RBI, while Bryce Deleon had a hit and a run scored. The juniors stole 10 bases , helping them to manufacture runs.

In Friday’s win over the Peppers, Wilder Junior scored four runs in the fifth inning to pull out the victory. Smithson had a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Seibel had a hit and two RBIs. Tennell had a run and two RBIs, while Deleon had a hit and a run scored.

Leitz started the game, going four innings and allowing five hits and six earned run. He struck out two. Ethan Swenson pitched two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

In Thursday’s victory, the juniors pounded out 15 hits while Deleon and Tennell on the mound allowed Sedro-Woolley just one hit.

Wilder Junior had a 13-run fourth inning as the game was called after five innings.

Smithson finished 2-for-2 with a triple, four runs scored and three RBIs. Tennell was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored and Seibel was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Doyle was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Leitz was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Swenson had a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Deleon pitched four innings, allowing one hit and striking out six. Tennell pitched an inning and struck out one.

Wilder Junior played late Sunday in Selah in a rematch with the Peppers.
