AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Junior opens season with sweep

Peninsula Daily News

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Junior began its season with some great pitching and a pair of wins, 2-1 and 6-1, over Rock Creek at Volunteer Field on Sunday.

Colt Romero got the win for the first game, going three innings and collecting six strikeouts. In the second game, Zach McCracken pitched 2⅓ innings and struck out four batters to pick up the win.

In the first game, Kellen Garcelon went 2-for-3 and had a walk-off single in the seventh to win the game. In the second game, Romero was 3-for-3, while Kole Acker had a double and an RBI.

“We were a little rough around the edges,” said coach Dayne Brown. “But to only give up two earned runs is a great start pitching. We’ll take that as a building block.”

Wilder Junior (2-0) next plays Saturday at Stanwood and Sunday at Blaine.
