AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Junior goes 5-0 at Selah tournament

SELAH — Wilder Junior capped off a wildly successful weekend tournament in Selah by blasting the Yakima Valley Peppers 14-6 to finish 5-0 in the tourney.

Wilder Junior blew open a close 7-6 late Sunday game with a seven-run seventh inning. While in Selah, the juniors beat RCA Underclassmen 12-0, Whatcom Post 7 AA 4-0, the always-tough Yakima Valley Peppers 7-6 and the Sedro-Woolley AA team 19-0, outscoring their opponents 56-12 and improving their record to 10-4.

Wilder Junior pounded out 15 hits Sunday, five of them in that wild seventh inning. The juniors were led by Ian Smithson, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, two stolen bases and three RBIs. Easton Fisher was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored.

Bryce Deleon was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, while Carson Waddell was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Zach DeBray was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Duran Ward also had a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs.

On the mound, Deleon started and pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out four. Ethan Swenson pitched two innings, allowing two hits and an earned run while striking out one.

Wilder Junior next plays Wednesday versus the WBS Colts White at 6:30 p.m. in the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker juniors tournament to be played at Sequim High School.
