AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Wilder Sr. loses a pair of close games Sunday

Wilder A wins two games over the weekend

BELLEVUE — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club was right in a couple of games against Lakeside Elite until the final innings Sunday but lost 8-6 and 8-7.

The losses completed a tough weekend of baseball for the Olympic Peninsula club as Wilder Sr. was also swept by Lakeside Recovery on Saturday. Wilder Sr. (9-22) is done with the regular season. American Legion state tournaments begin this weekend.

Wilder Sr. found itself locked in a tight battle Sunday afternoon, rallying from a 6-3 deficit to tie the game. In the top of the seventh inning, Wilder Sr. scored a run to tie the game at 7-7 on singles by Ezra Townsend and Brayden White, then an error on a hard ground ball by Kaleb Mullen. Lakeside Elite was able to walk the game off in the bottom of the inning with a single, a sac bunt, then a game-winning single to score the runner from second base.

Townsend had a monster game, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and three RBIs. Brayden Hagerty was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, while Colton Romero was 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Alex Angevine hit a triple.

Connor Bear started the game and went six innings, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs. He struck out five. White took the loss.

In the 8-6 loss, Elijah Flodstrom had a big game, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and three RBIs. Romero was 2-for-3 while Tate Alton had a double, scored two runs and stole two bases. Angevine had a hit, a run scored, a walk, two RBIs and a sac fly.

Saturday’s games

In Saturday’s doubleheader, Wilder Sr. was able to get on base, but they had trouble bringing in runners to score in 8-3 and 8-0 losses to Lakeside Recovery.

In the first game, Wilder Sr. kept it close, tied 2-2 into the bottom of the fifth inning, when Lakeside Recovery was finally able to break through for six runs.

Romero was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Townsend hit a double. Mullen had a hit, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs, while Bear had a hit and run scored. Angevine had a hit and a walk, while Nate Basden had an RBI on a sac fly.

Flodstrom started and pitched great, going four innings and allowing just one hit. He gave up three earned runs and struck out two. Brayden White and Blake Merideth went a combined 1â…” innings, giving up two hits and striking out one without allowing a run.

In the 8-0 loss, Wilder Sr. managed seven hits, but they were scattered throughout the game. Brayden Hagerty was 2-for-4 while Colton Romero was 2-for-2. Flodstrom belted a double, while Tanner Jacobsen and Brayden White each had hits.

Hagerty started, allowing six hits and six earned runs in four innings while striking out nine. Brian Guttormsen pitched two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out one.

NORTH BEACH — Wilder A won two games Saturday, beating the Riverdogs A squad 9-3 and the Sedro-Woolley A squad 6-0, with Brandt Perry having big games in both contests.

In the victory over the Riverdogs, Perry went 3-for-3 with two runs scored an RBI and a stolen base. Lane Wilson was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Garrett Buerer hit a triple, scored two runs and had a RBI and a walk.

Bubba Hernandez was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Brayden Martin had a hit and two runs scored.

On the mound, Harris Bower started, going four innings and allowing three hits while striking out three. Maeson Grice also pitched a perfect 1â…“, striking out one.

In the win over Sedro-Woolley, Martin and Perry combined on a three-hit shutout. Martin went 5â…“ innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine. Perry went 1â…”, allowing no hits and striking out two.

At the plate, Perry went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and three stolen bases. Garrett Buerer had a double and two RBIs, while Carston Seibel hit a double.

With the victories, Wilder A improved its record to 14-11, including 10-0 in the Area 1 American Legion League.
