AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Wilder Senior loses tight game in 11 innings

Wilder Jr., Wilder A go combined 3-0 over the weekend

ANACORTES — Wilder Senior Baseball Club pitchers struck out 17 batters and allowed just one earned run against the Aces 18U team Sunday, but after 11 innings, the Aces were able to pull out a 6-5 win on a walkoff single.

Wilder Sr. got a split of two games over the weekend played in Mount Vernon and Anacortes, winning Saturday 7-4 over the Yakima Pepsi Beetles.

The trio of Blake Sohlberg, Brayden Hagerty and Alex Angevine struck out 17 and allowed seven hits with Hagerty striking out nine in 4⅓ innings. Five of the Aces’ six runs were unearned.

In the 11th inning, each team started with a runner at second. Wilder Sr. was able to load the bases with one out, but the Aces got out of the inning with a fly out and a groundout.

In the bottom of the 11th, the Aces moved their baserunner to third on a sacrifice bunt and he was able to come in on an RBI single.

Angevine finished the game 2-for-6 with a run. Hagerty was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two walks. Sohlberg had a double, a run scored and an RBI while Tanner Jacobson had a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Wilder Sr. returns to Civic Field for the Dick Brown Firecracker Classic with a game at 7 p.m. Thursday against the Shoreline Royals.

Saturday’s game

MOUNT VERNON — Wilder Sr. rallied for three runs in the sixth inning, then held off the Yakima Pepsi Beetles in sixth and seventh to win 7-4.

Colton Romero started the game, going five innings and striking out two. He allowed four hits and two earned runs. After Wilder Sr. took the lead, Sohlberg came in to pitch two near-flawless innings to slam the door, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out one. Romero picked up the win while Sohlberg got the save.

Hagerty went 2-for-3 with a run, RBI and a walk. Angevine had a hit, a run scored, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base, while Townsend and Sohlberg each had a hit and an RBI. Nathan Basden walked three times and scored two runs.

Wilder Junior

SELAH — Wilder Junior scored six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull out a seesaw affair 7-5 against Whatcom Post No. 7 on Sunday at Carlon Park in Selah.

There were three lead changes in the final four innings as Wilder Jr. came back from deficits of 3-1 and 5-4.

Landon Olson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs while fellow Forks ballplayer Gunner Rogers was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored, two stolen bases and a walk.

Hunter Stratford was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base and Bryce DeLeon was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Bubba Hernandez, moving back and forth between the Junior team and the A team, had a hit, a sac fly, two RBIs and a run scored.

On the mound, Bryant Perry pitched two innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Brady Rudd pitched three innings, allowed one earned run and four hits. Brayden Martin got the victory, pitching an inning and striking out two.

SELAH — Wilder A came from behind to win a pair of one-run games this weekend at Carlon Park in Selah to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Wilder A beat Wenatchee Valley 7-6, scoring the tying run in the sixth and the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Bubba Hernandez went 3-for-3 with a stolen base and three runs scored. Carson Waddell and Brayden Martin each had a hit and an RBI.

Harris Bower pitched four scoreless innings to get the victory. He allowed no hits and struck out three. Hernandez also pitched two innings, allowing three hits and five earned runs. He struck out one. Brayden Martin pitched an inning and allowed a hit while striking out one to earn a save.

Wilder A rallied twice, from a 5-0 deficit and a 9-5 deficit, to beat the Monarchs A 10-9 on Saturday.

The Monarchs scored five runs in the first inning. Wilder A rallied for four in the fourth and another run in the fifth, but was still down 9-5 in the bottom of the seventh after Monarch added three runs in the top of the inning. Wilder A came back with five runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull the game out.

Easton Fisher led the team, going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Ryland Proiette was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs while Andre Campbell had a hit and two RBIs. Ethan Swenson also had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

On the mound, Maeson Grice pitched three innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. He struck out four. Campbell got the win, going three innings and allowing six hits and three earned runs. He struck out five.
