There’s certainly no shortage of celebrity skin care lines to choose from. Whether it’s Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson, Elsa Pataky, Kate Moss or even Brad Pitt, it feels like every A-lister is trying their hand at becoming a skin care entrepreneur. Can you blame them? Self-care has never been more popular (or should we say, more profitable). In 2021, the United States recorded almost $29 million dollars spent on skin care, followed closely by China and Japan. It’s safe to say there’s a demand.
Though the market now feels saturated with celebrity-owned cleansers, we can all agree that there were a few big names – Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba – making moves before it was cool.
And with extreme wealth, an engaged following, access to the top treatments, aestheticians and dermatologists, it’s no question that these skin care lines are set up for success. Our biggest question is, how do we know which ones are the real deal and which ones are just a marketing gimmick?
What to look out for when purchasing a celebrity-owned skin care product…
In advice which can be applied before purchasing anyone’s skin care range (famous or not), dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman suggested dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman, suggested looking out for the following: “it all comes down to ingredients and formulations,” he told Huff Post. “Some celebrity lines are more thoughtfully created than others. I always look for high quality, science-backed ingredients before recommending products.”
On top of this, Dr. Engelman recommends tried and true ingredients. Better yet? Ones that have the support to back up their claims. “I like when brands invest in clinical studies,” he said. “So you know that what you’re buying will do what it says it will do.”
Another consideration that can often get sidelined? Is this product right for your personal skin concerns or do you just want to use it because Rihanna said so? Let’s face it. We’re all guilty of buying a product because of who is selling it.
So, what is the expert verdict on celebrity skin care?
No better and no worse, according to cosmetic chemist, Esther Olu. “In my opinion, no celebrity skin care line has released truly innovative formulas that differentiate themselves from products currently on the market.” BOOM. Mic drop.

Have you ever tried a celebrity-owned skin care range? If so, what did you think?
I purchased some Kora when it first came out, I liked it.
I’m glad you like them… I am looking into the moisturisers and facial oil.
What did you buy and what are your thoughts?
No I have not and don’t plan to
I feel the same way, I don’t want to buy something just because of the celebrity behind it
I prefer a brand rather than a celebrity as the celeb may be here and gone tomorrow and are not necessarily experts in skin care
No I have’nt, They are usually really pricey. I think for some people the allure of the celebrity is what makes them interested, more so than the product itself.
I’ve been looking at Kora Organics. Not for Miranda but the efficacy surrounding the brand and products.
What products are you looking at?
Tumeric moisturiser, Facial Oil and Sleep Mask.
that sounds interesting
Yes I recently saw an interview or something where she said she’s never personally profited from Kora because all the money the brand makes she puts it all back into the brand and sourcing the best possible ingredients. Love that! Also guess she doesn’t need the money when she’s married to a billionaire.
I remember reading that too.
Yes that was in an article in BH not too long ago
Miranda does sound really knowledgeable on ingredients, etc.
No do not recall.
I remember I tried few Kora products and I enjoy them. It was a gift , I usually go for budget options.
I tend to rely on reviews, ingredients, and price to determine whether I will buy a product. Whether it’s a celebrity product or other brand doesn’t influence me much at all. I enjoyed reading this article and the cosmetic chemist, Esther Olu’s opinion.
Yes S-P that is how I would find a product too
celebrity lines are usually out of my price range and I would prefer a company that is an expert in skin care first
The only one that I know that is affordable is Drew Barrymore’s line.
No I haven’t and I probably never would
Celeb skincare wise I think I’ve only ever tried the Kora Energizing Citrus Mist and I thought it was pretty good.
Oh ya! I did try something from kora, but did not know that it was “celeb” brand. Just a skincare brand.
She doesn’t put her face on the products or the branding.
Not a fan of celebrity anything, but I do like Drew Barrymore’s flower range of lipsticks.
I tend to read reviews from trusted sites and then try the celeb skincare line.
I think the market is now oversaturated with celebrity lines. I prefer to look at reviews and ingredients rather than just buying something released by a celebrity. However I have always been intrigued by Kora Organics – seems there are some nice products which work
I liked the Kardashian black seed hair oil, which was actually affordable. Not too much into celebrity skincare though.
I love most of Kora but everything else, forget it. I have purchased some Fenty Skin but it is mostly miss than a hit. Fenty Beauty, on the other hand, is the bomb.
No I don’t like celeb lines
There is so many Celebrity Skincare and Makeup products out now. I just stick to known brands these days.
I like Kora is a good brand too.
I would not buy something just because a particular celebrity recommended it.
I wouldn’t but a celebrity owned skincare range but if I was given some then I would definitely use it just to make a comparison.
I deliberately AVOID celebrity products.
Me too.
I’m not particularly attracted to celebrity lines – it’s not their area of expertise, after all.
I’m not terribly keen on celebrity skincare lines, but wouldn’t rule them out altogether.
I tried few Kora organic products really like them.
no reason they should be any better
Yes, that is true.
I find the Kardashians really annoying.
Kim was recently fined for not complying with US Laws on promoting crypto.
They seem to be in the business with everything and anything.
They just all cashing in, I prefer to buy from Australian small business who are just trying to make a living.
Kora Organics looks really nice! X
I tend to avoid these brands on general principle.
Jared Leto is the latest celeb to launch a skincare line!
I generally try to avoid celebrity lines, having said that, I do like Go-To Skincare because I feel like it’s Zoe’s area of expertise. Some others, not so much
I’ve had a few samples of Kora products and liked them, but I haven’t purchased from any ‘celebrity’ brand.
I have tried Kylie Jenners skin care products to be honest.. i was pretty disappointed but her product line isnt expensive so I didn’t loose much
