FORKS — If all parties sign on the dotted line, high school students across Washington will be able to enroll in a publicly funded virtual high school based out of Forks next year.
The Quillayute Valley School District board of directors unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday that will create the statewide online public high school.
The district is partnering with Oregon-based Insight Schools to establish the Insight Academy of Washington.
The contract is expected to be hammered out, reviewed and signed by March 7, Superintendent Frank Walter said.
“At that point, everything’s a go,” he said.
Keith Oelrich, founder of Insight Schools, said his company is excited about the partnership and already making preparations to enroll students for the 2006-07 school year.
A large portion of the virtual high school’s success hinges on partnering with the right school district, which is something Oelrich said he believes his company has found in Quillayute Valley.
The district has offered online learning programs since 1996, and received national recognition last year for its participation in the Virtual High School program.
