PORT ANGELES – Clallam County will keep its elected director of the Department of Community Development if Tuesday’s ballot trend continues.
Voters were rejecting returning the position to an appointed one by 5,846 to 7,749 votes, or 43 to 57 percent, in preliminary returns Tuesday.
Thirty-four percent of the 43,296 ballots mailed to Clallam County voters on Oct. 17 had been counted Tuesday night.
Clallam County Auditor Patty Rosand said at least 4,130 additional ballots were in hand but not processed.
Another 3,000 to 4,000 are expected to come from drop boxes and by mail today and Thursday, she said.
Ballots must have been placed in drop boxes or postmarked before 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Ballots will be counted again on Friday. Results will be certified Nov. 27.
