FORKS — Voices for Veterans will sponsor a stand-down for West End veterans from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Forks Elks Lodge.
The annual stand-down is open to all homeless veterans, veterans in need and immediate dependent family members at the lodge, 941 Merchants Road.
Free transportation to the stand-down will be offered by both Clallam Transit and Jefferson Transit. Riders need only identify themselves as veterans to receive day passes.
Personnel from Sarge’s Place, a Forks emergency shelter for homeless veterans, also will transport bus riders from the Forks transit center to the Elks Lodge.
Volunteers will serve free hot breakfast and lunch.
Advocates will offer employment services, information on veteran benefits, housing assistance, legal aid and other services to aid veterans in gaining self-sufficiency.
Professional health providers will also supply free medical and dental screenings.
Free clothing, hygiene kits, bedding and outdoor equipment will be available.
