The U.S. Marshal’s Service is looking for the murderer of a Sequim-area couple who escaped from a Seattle halfway house.
The state Department of Corrections last week issued a parole violation escape warrant for John V. Carothers, 68.
“The United States Marshal’s Service’s Fugitive Apprehension Team is pursing leads, but Mr. Carothers has not been found yet,” Clallam County Undersheriff Fred DeFrang said Monday afternoon.
Carothers had served 31½ years for killing Ronald and Wanda Buck in their home west of Sequim on Sept. 3, 1971, during a random robbery.
He was granted parole last year and moved into what corrections authorities call an Interaction Transitional House in Seattle in April.
He apparently didn’t return to the undisclosed halfway house after routinely leaving it last week.
DeFrang said he will remain in contact with the lead investigator from the Marshal’s Service during the dragnet.
