PORT ANGELES — Two people sustained neck and back injuries in a three-car wreck on U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles on Thursday.
The wreck was reported at 11:24 a.m. at the intersection with Sherbourne Road. It temporarily blocked one lane of the highway.
A 2001 Dodge Ram driven by Walter Fuhrman, 81, of Forks, ran into the rear of two vehicles, the State Patrol said.
Both Carol Chrisman, 66, of Neah Bay, and Jay Ketchum, 53, of Sequim were treated at Olympic Medical Center and discharged Thursday.
The State Patrol cited Fuhrman, who was not injured, for driving too fast for conditions.
All three vehicles were traveling eastbound.
The State Patrol gave this account:
Ketchum stopped to make a left turn in a Toyota pickup.
John Chrisman, 66, of Neah Bay, attempted to pass Ketchum on the right side in a GMC pickup. Carol Chrisman was a passenger in his pickup.
Fuhrman hit Chrisman’s pickup in the rear before then hitting the back of Ketchum’s pickup.
Ketchum was taken to OMC in Port Angeles by ambulance with a neck and back injury.
Carol Chrisman, who suffered neck and back pain, was taken to OMC by John Chrisman.
Ketchum’s pickup was destroyed, while Chrisman’s pickup sustained an estimated $3,000 in damage, the State Patrol said.
All four who were involved in the wreck were wearing their seat belts.
