Two deputy prosecutors fired over behavior issues

PORT ANGELES – Two prosecutors in the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office were terminated on Monday after two weeks on administrative leave, County Prosecuting Attorney Deborah Kelly said Thursday.

Darrin Hall and Jamie Lewellyn, both 26, were terminated after Kelly was told of “grossly deficient” behavior, Kelly said.

Hall was a felony deputy prosecutor and Lewellyn was an intern felony deputy prosecutor.

Their termination comes amid a criminal investigation into activity that occurred when they were off duty during Labor Day weekend, Kelly said.

To protect the privacy of Hall and Lewellyn, Kelly said she could not comment further about the criminal investigation or precisely what behavior prompted their termination.

But she prepared a written statement in response to inquires from the Peninsula Daily News about what led to the employees’ termination.

Kelly said the two came to her to say they had heard they were the subject of rumors that they had committed a criminal offense.

In response, Kelly asked a police agency outside of the county to look into the matter, and she placed the pair on leave.

She declined to say which agency is conducting the criminal investigation.

She also arranged for the state Attorney General’s Office in Olympia to review any police reports that might be generated to determine what, if any, criminal charges should be pursued.
