CARLSBORG — Traffic backed up on U.S. Highway 101 at the intersection of Hooker and Carlsborg roads Tuesday after a dump truck with its dumper extended upward snagged and seriously damaged the traffic signal that normally extends over the eastbound lanes.
“The dump truck was coming from Carlsborg Road and turning onto 101,” said Trooper Krista Hedstrom, spokeswoman for the State Patrol.
The signal was repaired by 8:15 p.m., said a state Department of Transportation memo.
The collision occurred sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Traffic lights were in four-way red flashing mode until then, said Kelly Stowe, Transportation spokeswoman.
“I believe our signals crew needs to acquire equipment, etc., before it can be fixed,” she said earlier in the day.
The truck was owned by Diamond Construction of Carlsborg and driven by Delbert L. Gott, 70, of Sequim, Hedstrom said.
“The [State Patrol] commercial division was inspecting the truck to see if it had any faulty equipment,” Hedstrom said.
The State Patrol was investigating the collision Tuesday, and had issued no citations.
