Three involved in rollover on Highway 110

Child, 7, sent to Seattle hospital

FORKS — Three people were in a rollover crash early Sunday evening on state Highway 110, including a 7-year-boy and a 13-year old girl, none of whom were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.

There were no serious injuries, according to State Patrol and hospital officials.

The driver, Forks resident Benjamin Ernst, 44, was driving westbound in a 2003 Lincoln Town Car at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday at Milepost 3 on La Push Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to a State Patrol press memo.

Ernst left the roadway to the left and rolled, and his vehicle came to rest on its top.

The 7-year-old boy was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a broken arm and back pain, State Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said Monday.

The boy’s condition was unavailable Monday.

The 13-year-old girl was transported to Forks Community Hospital for precautionary reasons, according to the State Patrol press memo.

Ernst was transported to Forks Community Hospital with a minor head injury, Weatherwax said.

A hospital spokeperson said Monday afternoon Ernst was treated and released.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the crash, the State Patrol said.

The rollover remained under investigation Monday.

According to state law, anyone 16 years or older operating or riding in a motor vehicle must wear a safety belt. They cannot operate the vehicle unless all children younger than 16 are wearing a seat belt or are fastened into an approved child-restraint device.

Violation of the law is a traffic infraction.
