Three hurt in crash near Hood Canal Bridge

One airlifted to Harborview Medical Center

SHINE — An octogenarian from Nordland was listed in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center on Wednesday morning after a head-on collision at the approach to the Hood Canal Bridge on Tuesday afternoon that sent two others to area hospitals.

Wilbur Jurden, 83, was airlifted to Harborview in Seattle after the 2 p.m. Tuesday collision. He was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit on Wednesday, said Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg.

Jurden’s passenger, Judith D. Jurden, 82, also of Nordland, was taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale.

Chan was taken to Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend.

Their conditions were unavailable Wednesday morning.

Jurden’s 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was southbound on Paradise Bay Road, which intersects with state Highway 104, a State Patrol memo said.

A 2014 GMC pickup truck driven by Alan K. Chan, 58, of Sequim was westbound on state Highway 104 heading toward the intersection with Paradise Bay Road, the memo said.

Jurden attempted to turn left onto Highway 104 from Paradise Bay Road and struck Chan’s pickup truck head-on, according to the incident memo.

Jurden’s pickup came to rest in the westbound lane of Highway 104, and Chan’s pickup came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 104.

The cause was listed as failure to yield.

All three people were wearing seatbelts.

Drugs or alcohol were not involved, according to the memo.

Both vehicles were listed as destroyed.
