More than a year after dazzling Gov. Gary Locke and other state leaders, Karl “Jerry” Lamb still demonstrates his magnetic levitation system with an enthusiam of a kid with a new toy.
The 43-year-old inventor wide-eyed and unabashedly espouses his unusual system as “transportation for the 21st century.”
He jokes about the simplicity of magnetic levitation concept that many at first think is highly technical.
He compares it to the age-old child’s-play of trying to push together the like poles of two magnets — a force that repels rather than draws the magnets together.
That’s what levitates LEVX, resulting in a magnetic magnet-lined platform floating over a magnetic track.
This leaves a gap of air between the two opposing surfaces, one you can place your hand through.
“It’s that simple,” Lamb says, a giggle erupting from his cherubic face.
