PORT ANGELES — Vegetation management will delay traffic on U.S. Highway 101 near Lake Crescent this week.
Between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, drivers should expect one-way alternating traffic with a pilot car.
State Department of Transportation maintenance crews conduct regularly scheduled vegetation management along all state highways.
Crews will limit the mobile work zone to only one-mile increments at a time, starting on the eastern-most side of Lake Crescent and moving west.
A brief gap in Olympic National Parks’ three-year highway rehabilitation work offers the opportunity to improve sight distances for travelers along the highway between milepost 231.5 and milepost 222, Transportation said.
No four-hour delays are planned for the rehabilitation project this week, according to Penny Wagner, Olympic National Park spokesperson.
The work to restore the roadway width and shoulder area in front of the rock wall near milepost 229 is anticipated to begin the week of Sept. 23, she said.
That work will require four-hour delays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Final paving in the short section of road in front of the rock wall will be completed after the restoration.
In addition to the four-hour delays, drivers should expect short delays around milepost 229 for alternating single-lane traffic during weekday work hours. Traffic signals may also be in use on weekends .
