SEQUIM — Sequim High School senior Summer Jackson, who this fall won two state titles at the Class 3A championship swimming meet, has signed on to attend the University of Arkansas.
“Summer Jackson is an outstanding talent,” Razorbacks head coach Anne Goodman James said in a press release. “We feel she has her best swimming still ahead of her.”
Jackson, 17, will receive a full-ride athletic scholarship to the Division I school.
She also visited the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Louisiana State University.
“When I went to Arkansas I just really liked it,” Jackson said Tuesday night. “I liked the coaches and the campus. Just everything about it.”
She earned a pair of All-America honors this year with her state victories in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly.
“She is a powerful sprinter with natural speed and is very explosive off the blocks,” Goodman James said.
Jackson was also named the state Class 3A swimmer of the year and was the 50-meter breaststroke junior national champion in 2003.
She began swimming competitively at age 4 and has competed at the national ranks with Olympic medalists.
