SEQUIM — About $450,000 will be trimmed from the Sequim School District’s 2001-2002 budget as a result of the election failure of the district’s maintenance and operations levy.
However, the School Board said Monday night that all efforts will be made to maintain smaller class sizes and retain teachers’ jobs.
More than 200 people crowded into the Sequim High School cafeteria for Monday’s special School Board meeting in the wake of last week’s defeat of the proposed $8.2 million, three-year levy.
Most came to hear what programs might be reduced or eliminated, while others came to lobby to keep specific programs.
No decision was reached on the number of full-time teachers who will lose their jobs as a result of the levy failure.
Another special public meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in the high school cafeteria. It’s expected that specific cuts will be decided then.
