SEQUIM — It was unanimous — Schools Superintendent Garn Christensen will be around until 2009.
Sequim School Board members all voted Tuesday in favor of extending Christensen’s current three-year contract by one year.
The former contract ran from 2005 to 2008.
A longer extension couldn’t be granted, Christensen said, because state law mandates three-year limits on school superintendent contracts.
This is Christensen’s third year with the district and he said he’s happy about the extension.
“I enjoy the Sequim School District,” he said.
“It has a really dedicated and talented staff.”
Salary unchanged
Christensen’s salary of $107,272 will remain unchanged for the time being, but could rise if the state authorizes a wage increase.
The last raise Christensen received was for this school year.
The state approved a 1.2 percent raise for school superintendents, but Christensen’s salary is still on the lower end of superintendents in similar-sized districts.
There are about 24 other districts in the state with student populations between 2,000 and 3,000 students, Christensen said.
Salaries for superintendents in those districts ranges from $98,044 to $132,572.
