SEQUIM — City officials have renewed efforts to see the interchange at U.S. Highway 101 and Washington Street completed.
“Because the interchange hasn’t been finished, traffic circulation in town is hindered,” City Councilman Walt Schubert said Tuesday. “It’s putting too much pressure on North Sequim Avenue.”
In its current configuration, only westbound traffic can exit U.S. Highway 101 onto East Washington Street and only eastbound traffic can enter U.S. Highway 101 from Simdars Road.
There is no off-ramp for eastbound traffic from the highway, nor on-ramp for westbound traffic from Simdars Road.
“I don’t know why the Department of Transportation didn’t complete the project in the first place,” Mayor Bill Thomas said. “It needs to be done.”
