SEQUIM — Several thousand curious people will crowd into the Sequim-Dungeness Valley next weekend to learn more about an herb.
The fifth annual Celebrate Lavender Festival is expected to draw record crowds on Saturday and Sunday for the traditional tour of farms and street fair.
“The news of our little festival is traveling across the country,” said event publicist Pat McCauley.
“There was a third-page story in the July edition of Sunset magazine, a full page in Northwest Women, and front page stories in last week’s Sunday editions of the New York Times and Cape Cod Times.
“Many more stories will be published before the festival,” she said.
McCauley also indicated Website traffic statistics show a increase of three times what they were during the same period a year ago.
As a result of the increased interest in the event, the tour of farms has been expanded to include eight lavender growing sites this year.
Farms now on the tour include Cedarbrook Herb Farm, Jardin du Soleil Lavender, Lost Mountain Lavender, Olympic Lavender, Purple Haze Lavender, Sequim Valley Ranch, Willow Farm and The Cutting Garden, the newest addition.
