Clallam County sheriff’s deputies were searching Sunday night for a teenage driver who fled the scene after his car crashed into a tree on Happy Valley Road, injuring a passenger.
Alcohol is suspected in connection with the crash in which the female passenger suffered a broken leg and cuts and had to be extricated from the car, said Deputy Sgt. Dave Fontenot.
She was transported to Olympic Memorial Hospital for treatment. Another female passenger in the car was arrested on a charge of minor in possession of alcohol, he said.
The driver’s age was not reported. The incident occurred shortly after midnight.
“A male driver is still at large, and we’re hoping to locate him tonight,” Fontenot said Sunday night, adding that Saturday night and Sunday morning was a “very busy” period for incidents involving minors in possession of alcohol. He said 13 minors and one adult were arrested over the weekend on alcohol-related charges in Sequim and Port Angeles.
