Sequim church collecting backpack supplies for hurricane evacuees

SEQUIM — King’s Way Foursquare Church will be sending a team to New Orleans and Mississippi from Oct. 19 to Nov. 2.

Through Wal-Mart, the church has purchased 500 backpacks at $3 apiece.

The goal of the Friday, Oct. 14, Family Movie Night is to fill as many of the backpacks as possible with supplies.

For approximately $15, a child’s or teenager’s backpack can be filled, or $21 for an adult.

King’s Way will be sending three trucks, one of which is filled with $80,000 in donated medical supplies and equipment.

The Family Movie Night, which starts at 7 p.m., will show “The Search for the Real Mount Sinai” and “Sergeant York.”

People who cannot attend the movie night can send checks payable to the church at 1023 Kitchen-Dick Road, Sequim, WA 98382.

Be sure to note on the check that it is for Katrina relief.

Donors can also drop off items at the church office between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Wednesday. Supplies need to be at the church by Oct. 16.

For more information, call 360-477-5005.

Fundraising yard sale

A Community Yard Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Guy Cole Center in Carrie Blake Park in Sequim.

Proceeds will go toward the Emergency Relief Fund through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

To donate items in good condition, call Debbie King at 360-683-2116, Sally Crawford at 360-681-7364 or Denise Nielsen at 360-683-3791.

Grange donation

The Crescent Grange No. 1123 raised $384 by hosting a silent auction during its Sept. 21 potluck meeting to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.

The funds were sent to the American Red Cross.
