Recently installed gates on Burnt Hill will soon slam shut because of environmental damage caused by four-wheel-drive vehicles, the state Department of Natural Resources announced Thursday.
“The damage in that area is serious, and so we think it deserves a serious response,”‘ DNR Olympic Region Manager Tom Robinson said.
The decision will likely upset off-road enthusiasts and force them to find other spots for their fun, one local off-road club member predicted.
“It’s too bad that it’s being closed because of individuals going up there and destroying public and private property,” said Port Hadlock resident Neil Morgan, a member of Just Jeep Junkies of Jefferson County.
