SEKIU — Search and Rescue volunteers were looking Sunday for a Sekiu man reported missing on Saturday.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help from the public.

Family members reported Edward Doherty, 63, missing from his home at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday. The report was 6½ hours after he went missing.

Doherty, who has a history of memory problems and a seizure disorder, is said to have left his residence on foot without his cell phone.

“He had recently done something similar but found his way home,” said Sgt. Amy Bundy.

Doherty lives near Milepost 13 on state Highway 112 and Simmons Street in Sekiu, in a fifth wheel on the same property as his family, Bundy said in the press release.

His family had seen him at about noon Saturday and checked on him that afternoon at 2 p.m., she said Sunday.

Doherty is described as white, standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes.

He was believed to be wearing prescription glasses, camo-print slippers, an orange shirt with blue or green sweatpants and a black jacket.

Before contacting authorities, family members and fire department personnel had searched nearby trails and Forest Service Road 480.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team was activated and U.S. Coast Guard members conducted an air search by helicopter using thermal imaging, night vision and a search light, but no sign of the missing man was found, Bundy said.

Search and rescue volunteers were continuing to comb the area on Sunday.

The Coast Guard was planning another air search, and four search and rescue dogs were on their way form Kitsap County, Bundy said at about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Also assisting in the search is the Clallam Bay Corrections Center inmate recovery team, Bundy said.

The search will continue on Monday, she said.

Overnight temperatures in the area have been about 36 degrees.

Anyone with information is asked to notify Peninsula Communications dispatchers at 360-417-2459.
