BLYN — Local sports icon Howard “Scooter” Chapman made the first legal bet in Clallam County at 7 Cedars Casino’s new Cedars Sportsbook on Thursday.

The new business opened at 11 a.m. Thursday at the casino at 270756 U.S. Highway 101 east of Sequim.

“Now, it’s all up to the Seahawks,” Chapman, a longtime local sportscaster who retired in 2022, said after placing a $20 bet with manager Bill Matsko and Danny Duszynski on Seattle to defeat the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday in the Wild Card Weekend playoff game.

Minimum bets are $5 and the maximum at a kiosk is $1,999, whereas the writing station allows for higher bets, said Glenn Smithson, general manager.

Visitors can bet on an array of sports from football and basketball to racing and mixed martial arts.
