PORT ANGELES – The Tumwater Creek bridge on Eighth Street will be closed at 9 a.m. today.
This morning, new traffic signals will be activated at the intersections of Pine Street Extension and U.S. Highway 101, Eighth and Pine streets, and Tumwater Street and Marine Drive.
New four-way stops also will be activated at the intersections of 16th and Pine streets and at Eighth and C streets.
Left turns will be prohibited from westbound Marine Drive onto Cedar Street, and from Cedar Street onto westbound Marine Drive.
The Tumwater Truck Route will remain open and traffic will continue to be controlled by the alternating temporary signal.
The Valley Creek bridge will close no sooner than Sept. 17.
Both bridges will be demolished and replaced with concert girder bridges.
New bridges are expected to be open on Nov. 1, 2008 after the $18.4 million project is completed.
