QUILCENE — The Quilcene Food Bank raised $5,800 at its kickoff benefit concert and plans another later this month.
The benefit Aug. 25 was the first of several to raise funds in the pursuit of a new location. The goal is to raise $150,000.
The food bank, which provides services to about 1,000 people each month, plans to host another fundraiser at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Pearl Thrasher Memorial Garden, behind the Josephine Campbell Building at 294963 U.S. Highway 101 in Quilcene.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a lounge chair or blanket to listen to the Elder Berries, Jean Lenke and Jack Lambton, and Kalan Wolfe Duo.
The suggested donation is $10 per person.
Rhythm Ride played at the first event at the Community United Methodist Church.
Organizers have said that the present food bank venue, at the Quilcene Community Center, does not have enough space for expansion, so a new site is needed.
Additional donations can be sent by check to Quilcene Food Bank, P.O. Box 112, Quilcene, WA 98376. Organizers have asked for the phrase “Quilcene building” to be included on the memo line.
