PORT TOWNSEND — Puget Sound Energy has a new office in downtown Port Townsend.
The utility company, which provides electricity to 17,400 customers in East Jefferson County, celebrated the grand opening of its new offices in the Waterman & Katz building on Quincy Street on Wednesday.
Bertrand Valdman, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Puget Sound Energy, welcomed a group of 40 people before cutting the ribbon and officially opening the office.
“This is a building for the entire community,” Valdman said.
“We’re happy to be here.”
The sentiment was echoed by Phil Bussey, senior vice president of corporate affairs, after the ceremony.
“We want to be near the pulse of the local community,” Bussey said.
“This building captures that for us.”
Offices in the building at 181 Quincy St., near the corner of Quincy and Water streets, have been redesigned, and will be staffed by two full-time employees — one of whom will be Tim Caldwell, general manager of the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce, who will resign from the chamber June 27 and begin work for the utility as the top executive in Port Townsend on June 30.
