PORT TOWNSEND — A vessel damaged by a weekend storm was safe on shore Tuesday after Port of Port Townsend crews removed the damaged sailboat from the harbor.
Work crews used the Port’s heavy lift to pull the 36-foot Seafoam out of the water near Boat Haven.
The sailboat was one of two damaged Monday during a storm that ripped through the harbor with 40-knot winds forcing Vessel Assist Port Townsend to respond.
Seafoam of Port Townsend had its transom shredded when the high winds pushed the boat against the old railroad trestle just outside Boat Haven.
Vessel Assist Capt. Neil Harmsworth said the owners were lucky they didn’t lose the boat. He did not identify the owners.
Harmsworth and deckhand Ric Brandon of Port Townsend were called by the U.S. Coast Guard to assist the Seafoam around 7 a.m. Monday.
