PORT TOWNSEND — The Golden Age Club property adjacent to Chetzemoka Park will remain in public hands.
The City Council decided Tuesday to reject a recommendation by the Capital Facilities Committee to sell the valuable view property and use the proceeds to purchase land for a park on the city’s west side.
The council at press time had yet to vote on whether to set a public hearing regarding sale of the land, but a poll of the seven council members determined that four of them would vote against setting a public hearing, effectively ending further discussion of the proposal.
Two dozen residents spoke against the potential sale.
