PORT TOWNSEND –After more than a year, city officials have selected a contractor to build a new skateboard park.
City Manager David Timmons is scheduled to meet Thursday with Dreamland Skateparks representatives to award a contract worth about $350,000.
Based in Lincoln, Ore., Dreamland Skateparks designed and is completing a skateboard park in Port Angeles, Timmons said.
“They are pretty much the best match to what we are looking for,” Timmons said.
“A quality company that could work with the kids and work with the current design and have it complete by the end of the year.”
Dreamland Skateparks engineers plan to meet with local skateboarders to ensure that the final park meets users’ needs.
“The worst thing that you want to do is to build a concrete park and have nobody wanting to use it,” said Timmons.
Replaces wooden structure
The new concrete skatepark will replace an existing wooden structure on Monroe Street that the Port Townsend City Council has decided to donate to Jefferson County.
The wooden structure will be installed in H. J. Carroll Park in Chimacum, Timmons said.
