PORT TOWNSEND — Tired of the old, bleak logo, Port Townsend librarians are looking for a new symbol to better promote the city’s library.
“We are looking for a symbol that says it all,” said Port Townsend Library director Theresa Rini Percy.
“We hope that the logo would crystallize the library’s mission.”
The contest theme is, “Opening Minds, Opening Lives.”
Jefferson and Clallam county residents wishing to participate in the logo contest must submit their proposals to the Port Townsend Public Library by 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 8.
Application forms are available at the library, 1220 Lawrence St., Port Townsend, WA 98368, or online at www.ptpl.lib.wa.us/logo_contest.htm.
Entries will be judged by a jury of local people, and the top three to five designs will be displayed in the library before a final selection is made, Percy said.
The design should be one to two colors, must reproduce well in black and white, and should have enough contrast for the logo to be visible on the Internet for the visually impaired.
The winning artist receives a $500 prize, she said.
