PORT TOWNSEND — PT Bunny & Co. is scheduled to open this week in the Mount Baker block of Water Street, following extensive remodeling which restored the store’s 19th century facade.
“The front elevation of the store was completely ripped out and restored to the way it looked in the original plans,” said Susie Scott, owner of the home-accessories store at 914 Water St.
The store now has its original doors, which were found on the fourth floor of the building that dates from 1890.
Scott said she will carry a mix of home decor and gourmet items in the store, which is named after Penelope Townsend, a.k.a. PT Bunny.
Penelope is a creation of Scott, an artist and illustrator, who said the long-eared icon reflects the town’s culture.
“She’s sophisticated and she’s a character,” said Scott. “The way she’s dressed fits into Port Townsend.”
The white rabbit, who appears on the store’s sign and business cards, wears a wide-brimmed hat and favors eclectic fashions.
