PORT TOWNSEND — The City Council rates City Manager David Timmons’ 2004 performance as “excellent.”
“You have done an excellent job, in spite of the fact that this has been a difficult year,” states an evaluation report addressed to Timmons that was recently made public.
“I am happy with it,” Timmons said about the report. “I am looking forward to a good, productive year.”
After patting the city manager on the back for his hard work, the council offered recommendations on improving communications, staff supervision and tracking of city projects.
“There was some concern about communication disconnects that occurred with your absence on your peer-to-peer trip to Croatia surrounding budget issues and levy proposals,” the report states.
“Two councilors expressed an opinion that they perceived communication barriers existed between themselves and the city manager.”
The council urged Timmons to use more news releases to inform citizens of ongoing and perspective city programs, projects and developments.
“Please endeavor to communicate more with the council,” the report states. “Continue to take the high road in communications with citizens, the media and council.”
Consolidation leadership
The council also commended Timmons for his “leadership shown in the movement toward District 6 operational consolidation.”
The city’s Fire Department and Jefferson County Fire District No. 6 (Cape George) are in the process of consolidating services at a cost savings to taxpayers.
