PORT TOWNSEND — The sign on the door at Townsend Bay Marine could be a sign of the times at the Port of Port Townsend’s boat yard.
It reads: “Help Wanted.”
“At this point, there’s a dramatic busy time right across the board,” said Dave King, chief financial officer, company co-founder and one of the firm’s principal owners.
With business booming, the company needs shipwrights with mechanical, electrical and development skills, he said.
“We’ve seen increased demand in refits and new construction and mold building, and equipment installation,” King said.
Revenue increasing
Statistics show that the heavy haulout and marine lifts at the boat yard are literally floating big dollars into the yard, the site of most of Jefferson County’s estimated 300 marine trade jobs.
The Port through August had 561 boat yard haulouts with total work yard revenues up by about $90,000, or 19.7 percent, from 2004.
Boat and ship hauls in and out of the yard totaled 1,461 through August, compared to 1,397 for the same period in 2004, Port statistics show.
