Port Hadlock woman airlifted after Friday wreck

GARDINER — A Port Hadlock woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Friday afternoon after being involved in a two-vehicle wreck at Orcas Drive and U.S. Highway 101 in Jefferson County, the State Patrol said.

Christine I. Schmidt, 79, was sent to Harborview after the 12:15 p.m. wreck with unknown injuries, State Patrol said. Her condition was not available on Friday afternoon.

She had been driving a 2018 Ford Focus southbound on U.S. Highway 101 at Orcas Drive while Michael M. Choi, 47, of Auburn was driving a 2003 Lincoln Navigator northbound and towing a 2022 Kyrv Passport.

The Focus crossed the centerline in front of the Navigator and Passport, causing the Navigator to swerve toward the center turn lane, the memo stated.

The Focus struck the northbound guardrail, bounced off it and struck the right side of the Passport.

Schmidt faces charges of second-degree negligent driving, third-degree driving while her license was suspended and driving without insurance, according to the memo.

Choi was not injured. His vehicle had four passengers, all from Auburn: Elizabeth Eng, 46; Olivia Eng, 18; and two 9-year-old girls who were not identified due to their age. None were injured.

No drugs nor alcohol were involved, troopers said.

All involved were wearing seatbelts, the State Patrol said.

The Focus was destroyed, the State Patrol said, adding that Passport sustained reportable damage.

The Navigator was not damaged.
