PORT ANGELES — The city of Port Angeles is asking for input on its planned bike boulevard project.
The project, planned for the west side of the city, is to improve safety and connectivity for both cyclists and pedestrians by connecting existing bike infrastructure on 10th Street west of I Street to the Eighth Street bridges.
Construction is at least a year away, but an online survey will be open through Oct. 15 to gather input on the needs and experiences of current and potential cyclists.
Feedback will be used to inform the design of the project and help the city determine the best path forward.
The project will include several bicycle channelization and pedestrian safety improvements, such as:
• Bicycle wayfinding signs and markings
• Buffered and non-buffered bike lanes
• Two-way protected bike lanes
• Traffic diverters
• Parking removal
• Vehicle lane width reduction
• Median channelization and turn restrictions
• Rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB)
• New marked crosswalk and stop signs
The project is fully grant-funded for $1.959 million through the state Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The WSDOT Pedestrian and Bicycle Program aids public agencies in funding projects included in the city safety plans for bicycle and pedestrian route improvements.
