PORT ANGELES — As the ballot deadline to announce the amount and tax collection rate of a proposed four-year maintenance and operations levy nears, members of the School Board are examining a list of levy options.
During a Monday night meeting, Port Angeles School District officials presented the list, which board members say they will discuss during meetings Nov. 29 and Dec. 13.
In September, board members decided to ask voters to support a four-year levy during a Feb. 8 election to replace a two-year levy which expires at the end of 2005.
But the amount of the levy request was not set.
School Board members must establish a levy amount by Dec. 23 to meet the Feb. 8 election deadline.
Assessor’s information
Board members said Monday that they needed more information on property valuations from the Clallam County Assessor’s Office before they can decide on the levy rate.
Director of Business and Operations Jim Jones told board members that figures from the Assessor’s Office should be ready later this month.
School Board President Charlie McClain criticized the Assessor’s Office for the delay, saying it is “crucial” that district and board leaders have information in a timely fashion to make sound financial decisions.
