PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will vote on two separate levy proposals Monday geared to continue maintenance and operations revenues and purchase technology equipment and training.
The five-member board reached a consensus during an hour-long work session earlier this week to ask voters to support a four-year, $26,828,916 maintenance and operations levy, and a four-year, $3,601,197 technology levy in an all-mail election ending Feb. 8.
Board members debated the pros and cons of higher levy amounts, and in the end decided to select midrange options.
The proposed new maintenance and operations levy would collect $2.98 per $1,000 of assessed valuation if approved.
The collection rate is based on a projected 9.86 percent change in assessed property valuations in 2005 and a 5 percent change in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The levy would replace the current levy that expires at the end of 2005 and collects $2.88 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
Millions in revenue
If passed, the proposed maintenance and operations levy would collect $6,225,228 in 2006, $6,536,071 in 2007, $6,862,456 in 2008 and $7,205,161 in 2009.
As proposed, the owner of a $140,000 home would pay $417.20 per year, which is an increase of $14 per year more than the current $2.88 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
After a 30-minute discussion, board members also decided to ask voters to support a new technology levy of 40 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation over four years.
If approved, the measure would collect $835,601 in 2006, $877,325 in 2007, $921,135 in 2008 and $967,136 in 2009.
The proposed amount would mean the owner of a $140,000 home would pay $56 per year.
