PORT ANGELES — Looking down the road, the city has reserved its priority rights on the Bonneville Power Administration’s transmission system for the next 30 years.
The City Council vote to approve the new “network integration transmission services agreement” was 5-0.
Councilwoman Betsy Wharton and Councilman Grant Munro were absent.
The vote was taken Wednesday at a special meeting.
Deputy Director of Power Systems Scott McLain said the city’s current agreement with Bonneville expires on Saturday.
In addition to the special City Council meeting, the city’s Utility Advisory Committee met in special session earlier in the day to review the agreement and provide a favorable recommendation.
The new agreement uses the city’s rights to have priority for reserving space on the transmission system under the current Open Access Transmission Tariff.
McLain said the city sought a 30-year term because if competition forced the city off the transmission system, it would have to build its own.
