A task force looking into recent Coast Guard complaints of racism will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the incidents and how the community should respond.
The tentative meeting location is City Hall in the City Council Chambers, 321 E Fifth St., Mayor Glenn Wiggins said Sunday evening. The meeting location and format will be confirmed late today, he said.
The meeting originally was slated for a Police Department meeting room, but that was judged too small and difficult for public access.
The task force was formed by local officials who earlier this month received copies of a critical “social climate incident report”‘ from the Port Angeles Coast Guard commanding officer. The report alleged several instances of discrimination and slurs against Coast Guardsmen based on race and ethnicity.
