FORKS — A Port Angeles man was listed in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center on Saturday after the Nissan Xterra he was driving hit a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 101 near Forks on Friday.
The Washington State Patrol expects to charge Alexander R. Maybury, 24, with investigation of driving under the influence in the wreck, reported at 3:54 p.m.
Maybury was transported by ambulance to Forks Hospital for unspecified injuries following the wreck, which the State Patrol reported blocked both lanes of Highway 101 for over six hours.
Maybury was transferred to Harborview and was in the intensive care unit Saturday morning, a nursing supervisor said.
The State Patrol said that Maybury was driving south on Highway 101 when he crossed the center line and hit the northbound 1986 Reliance dump trailer attached to a Kenworth tractor driven by Zachary D. Addleman, 32 of Port Angeles.
The tractor came to rest in the southbound lanes, said the State Patrol. The trailer came to rest on its side, partially in a ditch.
Maybury’s Xterra was reportedly totaled in the wreck and was impounded. Both the tractor and trailer sustained damage but were driven from the scene.
