PORT ANGELES — A set of simple bolts can limit damage during an earthquake, building experts said Wednesday during a public forum.
“A few thousand dollars spent on the foundation can save you tens of thousands of dollars when, not if, the earthquake comes along,”‘ said Jerry Loeffelbein of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Clallam County and the city of Port Angeles hosted two public forums Wednesday at the county courthouse in Port Angeles to provide earthquake education information.
Speakers from FEMA and other agencies gave tips on how to prepare homes against further damage and how to stock up on basic disaster supplies.
The sessions were prompted by the Feb. 28 Nisqually Earthquake, which struck near Olympia and rattled the Pacific Northwest.
