PORT ANGELES — The City Council unanimously approved an amended agreement Thursday morning that could lead to the creation of tribal trust land on Ediz Hook.
The amended agreement follows a previous decision to sublet the federally owned land to the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe for construction of a “megayacht” marina.
It also expands the length of the parcel available for the project from 600 feet to 1,670 feet and allows the city to review project plans.
The city leases the land from the federal government.
Lower Elwha Klallam tribal leaders have proposed building the “megayacht” marina on the tract along the south side of Ediz Hook Road, just west of the Puget Sound Pilots’ Station near the entrance to Coast Guard base.
The estimated $7 million privately funded project would consist of 50 boat slips designed for 80-foot to 120-foot yachts ranging in value from $1 million to $15 million and needing as much as $200,000 in annual maintenance plus supplies for full-time crews.
