PORT ANGELES — A revised city stormwater ordinance that increases a monthly utility charge of $3 for residences and and up to $30 for most others received unanimous approval from the City Council on Tuesday night.
Residents won’t see the charge on their monthly utility bill, but will see the tariff on their semiannual property tax statements.
“The $3 charge seems reasonable. This is a much better ordinance than 15 months ago,” said Councilman Richard Headrick.
The money will be used for targeted projects.
The monthly billing will begin Jan. 1, and the city’s senior and disabled discounts for utility customers will apply.
The new utility charge is expected to raise $365,000 annually, but the money won’t be used to hire additional staff.
