Several North Olympic Peninsula insurance agents say they are ready to pick up the slack left by State Farm Insurance Co., which ceased signing new homeowner policies Monday.
State Farm, the nation’s largest insurer, will continue to insure current clients in Washington and 15 other states, said Harold Gray, senior vice president.
Officials with Bloomington, Ill.-based State Farm say the halt is the result of losing $5 billion last year from paying out in response to a string of natural disasters.
Peninsula agents of other large insurance companies, such as Allstate Insurance and Farmers Insurance Group, said Monday they will continue to sign policies as usual.
