Bonneville Power Administration officials said Wednesday that their energy customers on the Peninsula and elsewhere can expect a wholesale rate increase much lower than previously predicted.
“As close as we can get is well under 100 percent,” Bonneville spokesman Ed Mosey said of any wholesale increase.
“And it may be less than 75 percent.”
Mosey said Bonneville officials will announce the exact wholesale increase at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Portland, Ore.
If the estimate holds, Mosey said retail customers — residents, small businesses and small farms buying from area utility districts — can expect an average increase of less than 40 percent from Jan. 1, 2001, rates.
Utilities providing service in Port Angeles, Brinnon, Clallam County and eastern Jefferson County have already increased rates as much as 15 percent.
