Easter sunrise service slated at Civic Field
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Easter Sunrise Service will be held at Civic Field on Sunday at 7 a.m.
The field is on Race Street, two blocks south of First Street.
Music will be provided by Olympic Vineyard Christian Fellowship. The Easter message will be delivered by the Rev. Mark Manning of Constant Hope Fellowship.
Pastors from Hillcrest Baptist, First Church of God, First Presbyterian, Holy Trinity Lutheran and King’s Way Foursquare churches will also participate.
The offering will go to MANNA, a joint community outreach of Port Angeles congregations that provides limited assistance to local people in need.
Together today
PORT ANGELES — Members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will observe Good Friday together in a “Call of Common Communion” today at St. Andrew’s, 510 E. Park Ave.
At noon, traditional prayers and liturgy, followed by an hour of prayer — supported with music of J.S. Bach played by Pat Churchley and poetry of John Donne read by the Rev. Vincent Murray — will precede 2 p.m. Stations of the Cross.
At 7 p.m., choirs of the two churches will join for an additional presentation.
‘The Jesus Film’
SEQUIM –Sequim Bible Church, 847 N. Sequim Ave., invites the community to a Good Friday showing of Cannes Film Festival winner “The Jesus Film,” from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight.
Admission to the showing of the film, based on the Gospel of Luke, is free.
Easter events
PORT ANGELES — The Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., will continue its observance of Holy Week on Saturday at 11 a.m. with an egg hunt at the church for children through fifth-grade age.
Each child attending is asked to bring a dozen hard-boiled colored eggs.
An Easter pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 8 a.m. on Sunday in the fellowship hall. The menu will feature pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, fruit and beverages.
Contact the church office, 360-452-4781, for tickets, which are priced at $5 for adults, $2 for children younger than 12 and $12 for a family. This is a fund-raising event for a youth missionary trip to Tijuana, Mexico, on June 24-30 for the purpose of helping build housing through Amor Ministries for the poor.
The church’s annual Celebration of the Risen Lord Jesus will begin at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday with Sunday School for adults, youth and children ages 3 through elementary school age at 9:45 a.m.
Makah services
NEAH BAY — An interdenominational Good Friday service will be held tonight at 7 in Makah Lutheran Church.
An interdenominational Easter sunrise observance will be held Sunday at 6 a.m. in the Makah Marina at Neah Bay.
Sunrise at pond
QUILCENE — A community Easter sunrise service at Worthington’s Pond — East Columbia Street, across from the Presbyterian Church — will be held Sunday at 6:30 a.m.
The service will be followed by a potluck breakfast in the church.
Carillon to ring out
SEQUIM –Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave., will dedicate its new carillon and use it for the first time on Easter Sunday.
Donated to the church by Myrtle Capouch and Marta Strassler, the carillon’s bells and chimes can be programmed to ring throughout the day, but will normally be set to ring during the daytime hours, with primary use in the context of worship services.
Flower communion
AGNEW — Flower Communion at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 73 Howe Road, on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., is an annual event which will be presented by the Rev. Christine Riley.
All attending are invited to bring a flower or two for use in the service as the group explores the historical origins of Flower Communion, its theological foundations and its spiritual relevancy.
Potluck will follow.
